In the Book of Lamentations, Jeremiah says, "The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord" (Lamentations 3:25-26). Isaiah says, "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength..." (Isaiah 40:31).
While most believers are aware that we need to be patient and wait on the Lord, the scriptures about patience and waiting upon the Lord are often only given lip service. Modern man living in the Western world has so many conveniences for travel, tools, cooking, looking up information, and communication that the idea of waiting actually makes many people nervous. We get frustrated because it takes minutes more than we expected, when 50 years ago the same task might have required hours or days.
Waiting on the Lord requires us to put the answer and the results into the Lord's hands and time. Our technology often deceives us into thinking that we should be able to handle all things by ourselves. Living for the Lord requires that we wait for the Lord's answer in His time. Sometimes, we want the Lord to answer right now because the situation is ugly, but the Bible also says that the Lord makes all things beautiful in His time (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
As Christians, we need to remind ourselves every day that the Lord is Lord of all and loves us. Jesus is Lord of time and of the situation. We need to take it to heart that those that wait on the Lord will renew their strength and receive the answers that they need.
