During the Olympics, there were advertisements encouraging people to be all that they could become - to reach for their potential. In our walks with the Lord, we as Christians should also be reaching to attain the potential the Lord has purposed for us. We have scriptures telling us that the Lord knew us and called us before we were conceived such as Jeremiah 1:5, Psalm 139:15-16, and 2 Timothy 1:9. In reaching for our potential, there are at least three things we should be reaching for.
1.) We should be reaching for a consistent relationship with the Lord. A consistent relationship with the Lord will bring security, confidence, and joy from being in the Lord's presence. Psalm 16:11 says that in His presence is fullness of joy.
2.) We should be reaching to grow in our potential in the Lord. This means that we have to step out of the boat into uncharted waters when the Lord gives us a word. Jesus said to launch out into the deep (Luke 5:4). This means to try new things in the Spirit according to the Word of God.
3.) We should be reaching for souls. Again, we can refer to Luke 5:4 where Jesus says to launch out into the deep and let down your nets. There is a harvest out there, but like fish, we often don't know it exists until we let down our nets. Let us reach forward for the good things the Lord has both for ourselves and for those around us. Not only will we grow, but we will also reap a harvest for the Lord.
