Jesus said, "I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work" (John 9:4). We are living in a time when, quite often, darkness seems to be raising its head and getting the upper hand. However, we must remember that we have the Holy Ghost in us and that our lives show brightly in a dark world.
In the Old Testament, the high priest would light the seven-branched candlestick in the evening to burn through the night. Jesus is the great high priest. The Church is compared to the seven-branched candlestick in the book of Revelation (Revelation 1:12, 20). On the Day of Pentecost when the Church was born, Jesus lit the candlestick of the Church (Acts 2:3). The Church is intended to burn through the night.
Until the Church is taken out of the world by the rapture, the candlestick of the Church will continue to burn in the darkness by the light of the Holy Ghost burning within us. As William Bradford said: "...As one small candle may light a thousand...", our lives have the power to light the lives of others.
Let us keep the light of our lives burning in the dark world so that others can see their way to Jesus and the truth. Keep the light burning by praying, living according to the Word of God, living holy, and gathering together to worship the Lord.
