As an Apostolic Christian, it is easy to look out in the world and see Christians with varying degrees of Bible beliefs and wonder if the truth makes any difference. However, when we look at the words of Jesus and what the Bible says, we see that not only does truth make a difference, but it is essential in living for God.
When Jesus spoke to the woman at the well, He said, "..true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth" (John 4:23-24). Jesus also told His disciples "...If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:31-32). It is the truth that separates Christians from the world and sets them apart for the Lord. Jesus said, "Sanctify them through thy truth; thy word is truth" (John 17:17).
The Bible tells us to buy the truth and not to sell it (Proverbs 23:23). Truth is the first element in the armor of God (Ephesians 6:14). We live in a world where people suppress the truth of God and change the truth into a lie (Romans 1:18, 25), but we have the Spirit of truth to guide us and teach us (John 16:13).
We see the necessity of truth. The Father is looking for those that worship "in spirit and in truth." Truth is necessary to worship the Lord. We need truth to make us free. We need truth to fight with the armor of God. Truth is essential. Paul told the church at Thessalonica that their faith, patience, persecutions, and afflictions were worth it because loving the truth would prevent them from believing a lie (2 Thessalonians 2: 9-13). Continue in the truth.
