Fight the Good Fight of Faith

Paul finished his first letter to Timothy encouraging him to "Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life whereunto thou art also called..." (I Timothy 6:12). I believe the Lord is telling us to continue to fight the good fight of faith. It is not just an ordinary fight, but it is a good fight; in other words, it is a fight worth fighting.

We are fighting for eternal things for ourselves, our families, and our churches; but we are also fighting for present things, such as the world we live in, our communities, and, I believe, our country.

When any Christian wins the victory in the fight of death, others see the result and turn to the Lord. Our victory gives great testimony, and that is why there is a fight. The devil doesn't want any testimonies, especially ones that turn others to Jesus, so he fights us.

Elijah couldn't get a commitment out of the children of Israel concerning the Lord or Baal, but when Elijah fought the good fight of faith, and the fire fell on the sacrifice of the Lord, the people responded by falling on their faces and saying, "...The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God" (I Kings 18:39). Paul also made this statement: "For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory" (II Corinthians 4:17). I believe that when we persevere and fight the good fight of faith, we are working a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.
