About Our Father's Business

When Jesus was twelve years old, He became separated from His parents and family and remained behind in the temple talking with the scribes and teachers of the Law. When Jesus’ parents found Him three days later, they asked Him why He had stayed behind and caused His parents to worry. Jesus' answer was, "How is it that ye sought Me? Wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?" (Luke 2:49).

In the same gospel, Jesus also made the following statement: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord" (Luke 4:18-19). Again in the same gospel Jesus said, "For the son of main is come to seek and to save that which was lost" (Luke 19:10).

When we see the conditions of the world today - the irrational judgments of government and politicians as well as the sin which is so greatly abounding - it should be a sign to us that we need to be about our heavenly Father's business. We know that Jesus died to save the world, but many others do not know that they need to be saved. The Bible says, "Where sin abounded, grace did much more abound" (Romans 5:20).

The same anointing that Jesus had has now been transferred to the church, the body of Christ, to accomplish the same purpose for which Jesus came. We need to be about our Father's business.
