The Judgment of God

There are many people who do not take the judgment of God seriously. Some think it doesn't matter because God will not do anything. Some think, as long as each person does the best they can, God will accept them. Others mistake the love, mercy, and longsuffering of God for an endorsement of their way of living, and others look to men for judgment. The Bible tells us that God often withholds judgment and is longsuffering because He wants us to repent and come to Him. The Bible is also clear that, when judgment comes, God will render to every man according to his deeds (Romans 2:4-6).

Even though those around us might be living as though there is no judgment and that God doesn't expect any kind of standard from Christians, we still need to live godly and uphold a standard. The Bible tells us that the ungodly will not be able to stand in the judgment (Psalms 1:5). The Bible also tells us that the wrath (judgment) of God will be revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who hold (suppress) the truth in unrighteousness (Romans 1:18).

We see many examples in the Bible that show that, when sin reaches a certain point, God steps in to judge that sin. We recall sin in the days of Noah where God waited patiently before judging the earth with a flood; we recall the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah, and also the sins of the Amorites (I Peter 3:20, Genesis 13:10, 18:20, 15:16).

We need to earnestly pray for our nation that repentance and revival come because there is surely a day of judgment coming. "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land" (II Chronicles 7:14).
