The Blessings of a Contrite and Humble Heart

Psalm 91:1 states that, "He the dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." The psalm goes on to state the blessings of dwelling with the Lord. When we dwell with the Lord, He becomes our refuge and hiding place. When we get close enough to the Lord to dwell with Him, we will have confidence that God will protect us, even when terrible things are happening to others around us.

To dwell with the Lord means to live with God. We can live with God in our lives daily. Enoch walked with God. This means he lived with God in his daily life. Enoch is a type of the Church. Enoch is a man who walked with God in a world that God was getting ready to judge, and suddenly Enoch was gone. The Church walks in a world that God will someday judge, and someday we will be gone.

Our true peace comes from dwelling with God, but how do we reach a place where we can dwell with God? Isaiah 57:15 gives us the key to living with God. "For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones." If we will live with contrite and humble hearts, we can live with God and we can have the blessings of God's protection and the reviving of our spirits and hearts.
