Where Are Your Eyes?

Every person who succeeds has to learn to deal with failure. The road to success is filled with failures, but those that succeed do so because their eyes are focused on the goal and not the failure. It has been said that Thomas Edison ran something like a thousand experiments before he developed the incandescent light. When asked about all the failed experiments, Thomas Edison said something like, "I learned 999 ways how not to make a light." Thomas Edison wasn't looking at the failure, but the goal.

Living for the Lord is the same way. In the end, we will succeed because we had our eyes on Jesus and not on ourselves. The Bible shows us that Moses endured his flight from Egypt because his eyes were on God. Hebrews 11:27b states it this way: "...for he endured, as seeing Him who is invisible." Moses had his eyes on God.

Many times when people give up after a failure, it is because their eyes are focused on the wrong thing. Notice the type of statements often made by people who quit living for God. You will hear statements such as, "I can't," "I tried," "I failed," "I don't know how," etc. Notice again, the eyes are focused in the wrong place. Their eyes are looking at the "I" and not the great Lord and Savior who is able to give us victory in every circumstance.

The key to success in living for Jesus is to lift up our eyes towards our goal, which is to be with Jesus in eternity. The Bible says it this way, "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord..." (Psalm 121:1-2). Let's turn our eyes towards Jesus in everything, including failure.
