We Must Pray for Revival

One passage of scripture that has moved my soul on many occasions is found in Matthew 4:16-17. This passage states, "The people which sat in darkness saw great light, and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up. From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." These verses were included by Matthew to show that they were fulfilled when Jesus started his ministry in Galilee. What I find inspiring is people who sat in darkness were able to see the light of God and respond.

We are currently living in times of great spiritual darkness and sin. Many are living in the shadows of death caused by the sin that is everywhere. Major decisions are being made concerning the direction of this country and the world, and most people are ignorant of the spiritual influences behind the decisions. We need to be praying for revival. It is now the hour for the church to stand up and be the church. As people baptized in Jesus' name, we have the promise that the Lord will hear our prayers. II Chronicles 7:14 states, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways: then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sins, and will heal their land." The book of James also makes this statement, "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 5:16b).

We need to be praying for God to pour out His Spirit in revival upon this country, regardless of how the election turns out. We need to be asking the Lord to 1) revive the saints; 2) restore the backslider; 3) convict the sinner, bring them to repentance and a hunger to be filled with the Holy Ghost; and 4) pray for revelation of the truth. By praying for revival, we are asking the Lord to open the eyes of the people in this country to their spiritual need. Lord, give us a burden for revival!
