The Highest Form of Honor and Worship

The Bible states that the name of God is exalted above all blessing and praise in Nehemiah 9:5, but Psalm 138:2 states that God's Word is exalted above all His name. Many Christians today go around lifting up the name of Jesus, yet they really don't obey or even know the Word of God. How important is the Word of God? Let's look at a few points concerning His Word.

First, the "Word" is God's plan: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1). God created all things according to His plan, the Word. God had a plan from the beginning to bring salvation through Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:9-10). The second point is that the first manifestation of God was when God spoke the Word and said, "...Let there be light" (Genesis 1:3). God's Spirit was moving on the face of the waters, but a spirit is invisible. When God spoke, He manifested Himself. A third point is that the Word of God is His power. God speaks, and it comes to pass. God creates just by speaking something into existence. The Bible says the Word of God is sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12).

The Bible also states that Jesus performed many miracles by speaking a word. Jesus will defeat the Antichrist and his armies by speaking the Word. It says that a sword, which represents the Word of God, will go out of the mouth of Jesus to defeat the Antichrist. The Word is God's power.

A fourth point would be that the "Word" of God is God's character. We know that Jesus is God (the Father) made manifest in the flesh (I Timothy 3:16, Colossians 2:9). John 1:14 also says, "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us..." The final point is: since the Word of God is God's plan, His first manifestation, His power, His character, and is to be exalted above all His name; then the highest honor we can give to God is to honor His Word. The highest form of worship we can give to God is to obey His Word.
