The Church's Witness

The Bible tells us that a husband-and-wife relationshp is a picture of the relationship between the Church and Christ. The Bible says, "Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands" (Ephesians 5:24). It is clear that the husband-and-wife relationship should be a picture of Christ to the Church. The Bible tells us that Jesus loved the Church with sacrificial love. Jesus gave his life so that he could have a Church (Ephesians 5:25).

A question can be asked. Are our married lives a picture of Christ and the Church? Are husbands demonstrating sacrificial love for their wives? Is the love that they have agape love, the type of live that imitates the love Jesus had?

Are wives submitting to their husbands as the Church is submitted to Christ? If marriage is supposed to be a picture of Christ and the Church, could it be that a church's growwth and health can be determined by the health of marriages in the church?

It is just as important to obey God's order in marriage as it is to be baptized in Jesus' name. When the marriages in the church are a picture of Jesus and the Church, the world will have a witness of what love and living for God mean.
