Relationship Affects Our Circumstances

Quite often the circumstances and the conditions that we find ourselves in are the result of our relationship with the Lord. In I Samuel 12:12-13 we find the children of Israel desired a king because others around them had a king. God have Israel their first king, who was Saul.

Israel's relationship with the world was stronger than their relationship with God. Their relationship with the world affected what they wanted and caused them to ask for a king because they saw that the Ammonites had a king.

Speaking through Samuel, God let Israel know that they had actually rejected God from being their king. The Lord then gave them a king with the following admonition: "If you fear the LORD and serve Him and obey His voice, and do not rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then both you and the king who reigns over you will continue following the LORD your God." This passage is showing us that often the political leaders we have over us are the results of our relationships with God and the world.

When the Lord's people let their relationship with the world get stronger than their relationship with God, they can find themselves asking for things that are not the will of the Lord. The Lord may answer our prayer just as he did for Israel. Our national leaders are often just an indicator of the spiritual condition of our country.

If God's people will pray and keep their relation with the LORD, then the LORD will move on our national leaders to follow his leading. Let's check our relationship with the world and God, and make sure we are following the Lord so that the Lord will move on our leaders.
