Look Up...Your Redemption Draws Nigh

Jesus told his disciples that there would be many trying events that would occur before He came back. Jesus mentioned natural disasters such as earthquakes, famines, pestilences, and signs in the heavens. Jesus talked about false Christs, wars, and events fearful enough to cause men's hearts to fail, but as Jesus was saying all these things, he added, "And when these things being to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh" (Luke 21:28).

We know that the Christian life includes trials because "all that will live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution" (II Timothy 3:12); however, we also know the following: that no temptation that we face is unique, that God is faithful and will not allow us to be tried beyond what we can handle but will make a way out of the temptation, that we can bear it (I Corinthians 10:13). We know that Jesus will never forsake us or leave us (Hebrews 13:5c). We know that the Lord has allowed us to live in the time which we are living in, so He will give us to live in our situations ("For such a time as this..." [Esther 4:14b]). We know that God will give us strength for all things through Jesus Christ (Philippians 4:13). We also know that Jesus said that He would not leave us comfortless, but that He would come to us (John 14:18).

Seeing that we have all these promises from the Lord and knowing that there will be trying times, we know that, with Jesus, we can handle whatever comes. We also know that when things are getting tough, we should lift up our heads and start to look for Jesus because He is nearby. Jesus is either coming to get us or He is going to strengthen us to endure the situation.
