Don't Get Weary of Serving Jesus

The apostle Paul, in writing to the Galatians, finished up his epistle with the exhortation of not getting weary in doing good (Galatians 6:9). The picture Paul was illustrating was of a field worker tilling the ground and planting under the hot sun. As long as the worker didn't let the circumstances of the heat and hard work overcome him, there would be a harvest. Notice that Paul said, "We shall reap if we don't faint." The time between planting and harvest is normally months, but in some cases, it can be longer. Paul was saying that if we plant, we will harvest.

Paul was using this illustration to encourage the churches in the region of Galatia to continue to live for Jesus. Do good in the name of Jesus, live in the name of Jesus, pray in the name of Jesus, and there will be a spiritual harvest. We can especially apply this analogy to soul winning. If we live for Jesus and continue to witness, there is going to be a harvest. There will be results.

One thing a Christian needs to remember is that it takes time for the harvest to appear. Some years are better than others. There are years of famine. You can't see the harvest growing immediately, but eventually you see the plants start to spring up. The same thing has been happening for South Shore Pentecostal Church. We must continue to be faithful and pray for the seeds that we have planted and trust God for the upcoming harvest. We need to continue on in faith for Jesus.

Another scripture that is a companion to Galatians 6:9 is Hebrews 10:36, which says, "For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise." We have a promise of a harvest if we plant with a burden. Psalm 126:5-6 says, "They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him." I believe we have a promise from the Lord that if we plant with the right motive and attitude, there will be a harvest of souls.
