Blessed is the Man

As we approach another Christmas season, which is celebrated by giving, it should also remind us that we give because Jesus gave His life for us. Jesus came to remove the curse of sin and death and bring the gift of eternal life. The Bible also tells us that when Jesus ascended on high, he gave gifts (plural) unto men (Ephesians 4:8). Jesus took the curse and provided opportunities for blessings, which are gifts instead of the curse.

As children of God, we have multiple opportunities to be blessed men and women. First, the Bible explains many ways in which we can be blessed:

  1. Blessed is the man that meditates in the law day and night (Psalm 1:2)
  2. Blessed is the man that trusts and hopes int he Lord (Jeremiah 17:7)
  3. Blessed is the man whose strength is in the Lord (Psalm 84:5)
  4. Blessed is the man that fears the Lord (Psalm 112:1)
  5. Blessed is the man that endures temptations; he shall receive a crown of life (James 1:12)

Besides the blessings already listed, there are additional blessings that the Lord often grants unto His children, such as, "Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts (Psalm 65:4)." This is a promise that the Lord will cause us, from time to time, to come into His presence where there is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11). The Bible also tells us we are blessed when the Lord chastens us — it is a sign of His love (Psalm 94:12).

As we approach and enter into this Christmas season, we need to realized we are a blessed people. We have much to be thankful for. Seeing the blessings that we have at hand, let us be thankful to the Lord, try to be a blessing to others, and keep Jesus as the focus of the season, knowing that blessed is the man that follows the Lord.
